Parkinson’s Disease Research Could Be Bolstered by Kentucky Lawmaker’s Proposal

FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX 56) — A Kentucky lawmaker is working to pass a bill that would open up more research on Parkinson’s disease.

“Parkinson’s is…it’s a scary diagnosis,” Jane Rice Williams told FOX 56 News.

Williams was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2016. Just two years later, she founded Parkinson’s in Motion, a nonprofit providing resources and support for those impacted by the disease across East Kentucky. The disease is now considered by several researchers the fastest-growing neurological condition in the world.

“We do, more than anything, need to find out how to stop Parkinson’s,” Williams said.

She’s worked with her local lawmaker, Sen. Brandon Storm, to file Senate Bill 27 this year.

“And it’s to set up a registry to basically start researching the prevalence of Parkinson’s disease in Kentucky,” Storm explained to FOX 56.
