Ribbon Cutting, Open House & Old-Fashioned Pounding

Join us for our Ribbon Cutting, Open House, and an Old-fashioned “Pounding!”

Parkinson’s in Motion (501c3) is the premiere Parkinson’s Disease resource group for the eastern Kentucky and the Appalachian region. Established in 2018, Parkinson’s in Motion finds, informs, and connects individuals and families impacted by Parkinson’s Disease with resources and support. Parkinson’s in Motion has seen considerable growth and impact in 2023! Parkinson’s in Motion hosted its first 5K Run/Walk in April, was named the nonprofit of the year by London-Laurel County Chamber of Commerce and has a new home in the Medial Arts Building on West 7th Street in London.

On Monday, December 18th , there will be a ribbon cutting at 3:30PM and an Open House from 4:00PM – 6:00PM in the new space at the Medical Arts Building. Friends and supporters of Parkinson’s in Motion are also invited to an old-fashioned “pounding” to help the organization as it settles into this new space.

“Poundings” are a tradition dating back to the 19th century when churches would welcome a new clergyman by bringing a pound of food like flour, sugar, coffee, or honey. While dropping off this food item, congregants would spend time getting to know the new minister and their family. Poundings continue today and inspire the theme for wedding showers, baby showers, or housewarming celebrations.

Parkinson’s in Motion will have a pounding at its new location in conjunction with the open house event. A Christmas tree will adorn the space containing ornaments with items needed for the new space. Items that attendees can donate for the pounding will cover a variety of price points so that anyone interested can support the event.

Join Parkinson’s in Motion for its Open House and Pounding on Monday, December 18th from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM!
